BILLY PAGE Not My World (Langley Records - ALBUM) When he isn’t climbing mountains or gigging in top San Franciscan art galleries, singer-songwriter Billy Page is one to turn out a classic album of bittersweet originals every now and then. This latest has his usual blend of subtle drive and melodic power, although on this disc the acoustic expert is backed by a band on most tracks. Rather than bury him, though, his new group give him exactly the right platform from which to deliver some of the strongest tracks he’s ever cut. The other-worldly ‘A New Place’ and the whimsical ‘Hope Is Lonely’, honestly, they’re all pretty damn good (and well recorded too, a sweet studio job from Page and producer Mark Sutherland that’s awash with discreet touches). If you haven’t connected with the man yet you really are missing out.
