This Saturday, Clay George's Cambodia Country Band will make a long awaited return. Since forming a few months ago and getting up to speed with two months of Monday night performances at Oscar Bar, the band took a break while Clay concentrated on his new endeavor: running the Garage Bar on Street 110 (if you haven't yet been, check it out!)
The band will be returning in style for the 17th anniversary celebrations of Shanghai Bar (corner of 51 and 172) Phnom Penh. Just to make things even more special, the five-piece Honky Tonk specialists will be expanded to six - with the addition of the very talented Sophal (former Memphis Pub resident player and now resident Oscar Bar player) on piano. Sophal joins Oscar (drums), Dave Z (bass), Steve 'Cha Stew' Sutcliffe (fiddle), myself (lead guitar) and the big man himself Clay (lead vocals, guitar) for a party session of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Hank Williams favourites.
